ABOUT THE WATCH
Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month
The Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month is inspired by a prop watch IWC Schaffhausen supplied for characters of the Hollywood movie "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom." The 49-millimeter case, the case back ring, the crown, and the pushbutton are made of IWC's proprietary Ceratanium®. This performance material combines the lightness and structural integrity of titanium with a hardness and scratch resistance similar to ceramic. This sporty dive watch features a black dial with details in blue Super-LumiNova®. The luminescent material is applied to the hour and minute markers, the hands, and the minute scale on the inner rotating bezel. Super-LumiNova® is a high-tech ceramic compound and acts like a light-storing battery. It absorbs light, energizes electrons, and later releases that energy as visible light, making it glow in the dark or underwater. An outstanding functional feature of this watch is the perpetual calendar with digital displays for the date and the month. The calendar is mechanically programmed to automatically recognize the different lengths of the months and the leap years. As a result, the combination of "29" and "02" will appear only once every four years on the dial. The Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month is powered by the IWC-manufactured 89802 caliber, which also offers a chronograph function. The stopped hours and minutes are displayed combined in a totalizer at 12 o'clock. A double pawl winding system builds up a power reserve of 68 hours in the mainspring. The movement can be observed through the transparent sapphire glass case back. Like all Aquatimer models, this 10-bar water-resistant dive watch features IWC's external/internal rotating bezel for setting the dive time. The IWC SafeDive system ensures that the inner rotating bezel can only be adjusted when the outer bezel is rotated in an anticlockwise direction. This ensures that even if a diver moves the bezel accidentally, the time they can return safely to the surface without the need for decompression stops is never exceeded. The watch is fitted with a black rubber strap with a Ceratanium® pin buckle. Thanks to the IWC bracelet quick-change system, the black rubber strap can easily be replaced with another strap. The Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month is limited to 25 pieces.
Perpetual calendar with digital date & month displays
Despite the complexity of the perpetual calendar with four large discs for the date and month, as well as a small leap year disc, it can be easily set using the crown and will not require correction until 2100. The date advance wheel for the single-digit and tens discs advances daily. However, the quick-action switch siphons off a little energy every night when the date display moves forward. It stores this energy and then discharges it precisely at the end of the month or year when, in addition to the date and month disc, the leap year disc also needs to be advanced. The digital display dates back to the IWC Pallweber watches from 1884 that displayed the hours and minutes using digits.
