Lorenz Brunner loves creating things. He does it with genuine passion and dedication. And an insatiable appetite for innovation. In our “IWC Explained” series, Lorenz, who is responsible for IWC’s research and innovation, talks about IWC’s latest technical and material innovations
COLORED CERAMICS
Have you ever handled a watch made of high-tech ceramic? We suggest that you do. Its surface feels soft, almost velvety. Lift it up and you’ll notice that its case is exceptionally light and scratch-resistant. Add some color to the ceramic, and you’ll be looking at a watch of jaw-dropping vibrancy. This is not a coincidence: IWC Schaffhausen is considered as one of the early innovators in ceramic watchmaking since the launch of the black and white Da Vinci Perpetual Calendars (Ref. 3755) in the 1980s. For the COLORS OF TOP GUN: COLORED CERAMIC WATCHES, our specialists took inspiration from the forest green uniforms worn by elite pilots and the wintery landscape around Lake Tahoe.
Lorenz Brunner is here to talk about the magic behind creating colored ceramics.

THE SHOCK ABSORBER
It was one of the highlights at Watches & Wonders 2021: The Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber XPL (Ref. IW357201). But what is the system behind it? How does it work exactly? And what inspired the watch and its design? In this episode, Lorenz Brunner tackles one question after another about the development behind this innovative timepiece.

THE ALL-CERATANIUM® PERPETUAL CALENDAR
Combining one of the most venerable complications with the latest state-of-the-art material is a bold move. To harness it with a sporty bracelet made of said material - possibly even more so. Lorenz Brunner explains the reasons behind creating the all-Ceratanium® Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar TOP GUN Ceratanium® (Ref. IW503604).
