The unspoiled Gérald Genta design
As an anti-magnetic wristwatch, the Ingenieur from IWC Schaffhausen was developed specifically for engineers and researchers who are exposed to strong magnetic fields. At the height of his creative period in the 1970s, watch designer Gérald Genta redesigned the model, creating the Ingenieur SL, Reference 1832. Being too visionary and too bold for the envisioned target group of “engineers”, it never became a commercial success. For almost five decades, the unspoiled and pristine Genta design remained a secret tip among collectors and other insiders. When IWC re-launched the iconic design in 2023 after a four-year development and refinement process, it finally received the attention it deserved from the start.
